Inspiration of the Week - J.K Rowling

Something excellent this way comes! This week’s inspiration comes from the one and only author of - amongst other things - the Harry Potter series. Yes, it’s the one and only J.K Rowling.

Inspiration comes from many different places, but the strength of JK - born Joanne - to come from where she once was in her life, to where she is now, is the story of someone incredibly talented and, well, really cool!

Born in 1965 in Gloucestershire, Rowling grew up to a mother and father who first met on a train from Kings Cross Station (an exciting fact for all Potter lovers!) to Arbroath. After not managing to get into Oxford University, the author worked a number of jobs, including Amnesty International and as a tutor in Portugal, before she gave birth to her first child. It was during her time on state benefit, on a train to Edinburgh to Manchester, that she was first inspired to write a story about a boy wizard and his wizarding school. It was there that the story of Harry Potter - the most famous boy in the world - came to life.

Through struggles as a single mother and being - as she described it - "as poor as it is possible to be in modern Britain, without being homeless” her creative mind and love for story continued to burn brightly as one of the few great things that don't require money to evolve and use. And that’s something that we should all remember!

As the years went by, Rowling delved deeper and deeper into the universe of Mr. Potter and created an idea within her mind of every detail that existed in the wizarding world. After she wrote the first book - Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone - she continued for a further six books across the following decade, bringing the story of Harry, Ron and Hermione to a close in 2007, with the final book Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

These books are some of the best-loved children’s books in the world, with spin-offs, films, and even theme parks dedicated the and idea somebody had on a train over 20 years ago. If that isn’t inspiration, then I really don’t know what is!
